Young directors and screenwriters from ASEAN aged 12-25 are invited to participate in the upcoming All In! Young Short Filmmakers Exhibition (AYSFE), which opens its doors to two categories of films next year: documentaries and narrative film.

Chosen submissions will be shown during the breaks throughout the Festival, and will be featured in the Festival’s YouTube Channel and other social media platforms.

The exhibition promotes writing in its many other forms, providing a platform for young screenwriters and directors to showcase their creativity through core writing skills related to film and production.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

The following criteria will be used for the selection of the short films that will be featured:

1. Submission to the exhibition is open to all young creators residing in Asia, aged 12-25. To submit entries, the director/writer must register for either of 2 screenwriting masterclasses which will be held at All In! 2018, here.
2. The director/writer can submit up to 3 entries for selection. All works must be original, and have not been screened overseas, or have won in any similar competition/exhibition. 
3. Previous films produced up to two (2) years prior to the launch shall be accepted, as long as the creators can prove they were within the age range at the time of production, through identification such as school IDs.
4. The films shall have the following specifications:
   1. For narrative films, the film must be at least one (1) minute and a maximum of ten (10) minutes in length, excluding a short credit roll, and be in either .avi, .mpg or .mov format. It may or may not have audio, dialogue or musical background. The film may be shot in black and white or in colour, using the creator’s chosen visual recording medium. The film must have subtitles if they have dialogue. For films in vernacular languages, translations must be provided in English and embedded into the film and not as a separate .srt file. 
   2. For documentaries, the film must be at least five (5) minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes in length, excluding a short credit roll, and be in either .avi, .mpg or .mov format. It may or may not have audio, dialogue or musical background. The film may be shot in black and white or in colour, using the creator’s chosen visual recording medium. The film must have subtitles if they have dialogue. For films in vernacular languages, translations must be provided in English and embedded into the film and not as a separate .srt file.

5. The film must reflect an Asian theme, value or tradition. It must not contain any form of profanity, obscenity, and dialogue or gestures that are deemed promoting, denigrating, offending or derogatory towards any race, religion, creed, or sexual preference.

6. The following must accompany the submission:

   1. CV of writer/director, including links to previous works (if any)
   2. Copy of the writer/director’s school or citizen IC
   3. One-page film synopsis in English
   4. A list of actors and production crew, with complete names, age, address, occupation (if any) and email address
   5. A separate high resolution photo of writer/director in .jpg
   6. Information sheet

Submitting creators provide All In! Young Writers Festival and NBDCS the right to use the film, in part or full, for marketing purposes of the Festival, and to feature their works on all Festival social media platforms.

All In! Young Writers Festival and NBDCS reserves the right to refuse any entries which violate any of the abovementioned guidelines.

Registration for the masterclass entitles the writer/director to bring along up to 2 production crew for the session, for free. All shortlisted writers/directors and up to 4 of their production crew will be provided with a 50% discount on regular festival pass rates for All In! 2018.

The last date of submission is on 31 December 2017, 6.00pm. Please save all entries and appending documents on Google Drive, and share the folder link to the Festival Director. 

The shortlist of films to be included in the exhibition will be released by End-January 2018. The decision of the selection panel is final and irrevocable.

GUIDELINES

1. Stories must be EXACTLY 55 words. No more. No less. Flouting this rule disqualifies your story!
2. All entries need to be posted on the official All In! Facebook page.
3. You can submit up to three entries! Subsequent entries will not be considered, no matter how awesome they are.
4. Your title should not be part of your word count.
5. Contractions count as one word. Hyphenated words are one word too.
6. Inappropriate posts or comments will be deleted (vulgarity, swearing and all that sort are unacceptable).
7. Your post should end with “By [Name to be listed in the registration for the All In! Festival]” and the school where you are from.
8. No (explicit) sexual content is allowed.
9. Open to anyone 12 – 25 years of age. The closing date for submission is 16 February 2018, 6:00pm.
10. All prizes must be claimed within 60 days after the Festival. If unclaimed, organisers with consider the prizes as forfeited.

CATEGORIES

The competition consists of the following categories:

1. Judges’ Choice, where a panel of judges will decide on winning entries
2. Popular Choice, where the entries with the most Facebook likes win 

PRIZES

The following prizes will be awarded for each Judges’ Choice and Popular Choice categories:

• 1st Prize: A goody bag worth $100 and a complimentary 1-day pass to All In! 2018
• 2nd Prize: A goody bag worth $50, and a complimentary 1-day pass to All In! 2018
• Runners-Up (3 per category): A complimentary 1-day pass to All In! 2018

CRITERIA

The one-sentence stories will be judged according to the following criteria:

1. Word-Play. The author justifies himself being called a guile wordsmith by his choice of words to convey the story in just 10 words.
2. Imagery. The story stirs the imagination, so much that it evokes an emotional reaction from readers: a giggle, a snort, goose pimples!
3. Storyline. The sentence is a full story in itself, with most story elements present, using only 10 words!

YOUTHspeak features representative-students from ASEAN who will present preselected papers on a variety of topics approved by their mentors. 

The essay shall be 800 – 1,000 words long, typed with 1.5 space on normal margin using either Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman on point 11 or 12, in English, and will be based on either of the following topics:

Prior to submission, the essays shall be evaluated and recommended internally by their respective school/teacher-in- charge**, which shall choose five (5) potential candidates to represent the school in the session.

**Youths who are home-schooled will need a signed letter of endorsement, in PDF, from an adult to accompany their submission, along with the endorser's email address and contact numbers.

Submissions will be in .doc, .docx and .pdf formats only, and sent via email to the Festival Director on or before 14 January 2018 together with the following information sheet.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

The Festival organisers will then choose from this roster, the paper for presentation based on the following criteria:

• Technical Soundness, which refers to grammatical correctness, sentence fluency, and adherence to word count; and,
• Structure and Format, which refers to coherence of ideas presented, organisation, voice and tone, word choice, arguments presented and the reasoning behind such arguments.

All papers submitted by the school will be included in the compilation of essays that will be electronically made available on the Festival website afterwards.

**Home-schooled youths whose papers are selected will be notified through the email of the endorsing adult.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The call is open to an original, unpublished piece of fiction, written by youths aged 12-25 years old, who are residing and/or based in Singapore.

1. The theme for the submission is “Tomorrow Written Today”. Writers can only submit one (1) entry. 
2. Submissions must be no more than 2,000 words, written in English, original and unpublished both in print and online. Entries must be typed with 1.5 space on normal margin using either Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman on point 11 or 12, in MSWord format.
3. Submissions should have the author’s name, age, word count and school, if applicable, at the upper right corner of the first page of the story.
4. All entries must be emailed to the Festival Director, together with a copy of the author’s IC and information sheet.
5. Vulgarities, swearing and any form of profanity are unacceptable. No explicit sexual content is allowed.
6. The competition will be open from 1 October 2017 to 28 February 2018. Only those entries submitted within the dates will be eligible for the call.
7. An independent panel of judges who are experts in the field of fiction, will select 15 shortlisted authors from all the entries submitted to the call. The judges' decision is final, and no appeals or correspondence will be entertained at any point.
8. All In! Young Writers Festival will announce the shortlisted stories in March 2018. An email-based bi-monthly mentorship programme on snackable fiction will be organised for the shortlisted authors. The selection panel/judges will be linked to the authors via an online group, to discuss how the stories can be improved.
9. Final submission of stories selected for publication will be in 31 May 2018.Winners will be announced over All In!’s social media platforms, and through email directly to the authors, by end-June 2018.
10. Upon publication, each featured author will also receive five (5) copies of the anthology.

Submissions which fail to comply with any of the above rules and conditions of entry will be disqualified.
