Write for Kindness Workshops 2018: Supported by the Singapore Kindness Movement (By invitation only)

Write for Kindness is a national creative-writing competition organised by the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) and supported by the All In! Young Writers Festival. It is a platform for primary, secondary, junior college, centralised institute and international school students to promote kindness to the younger audience by creating age-appropriate and culturally relevant children’s stories, through short stories, poetry and illustrations.

The most infamous Ides of March, however, marked the assassination of Julius Caesar and the start of civil strife in Rome. The performance tells about the Ides of March this year in Singapore by expressing them in verse.

Supported by Singapore Repertory Theatre, the session looks into translation and transcendence of existing content into an adapted script intended for theatre production. Discover the fun ideas, intricate thoughts, and effective lessons in play creation. Aspiring writers, parents and teachers of young children can get behind-the-scene tips from veteran theatre practitioner and bilingual extraordinaire Danny Yeo (Yang Junwei) who will share his experience of writing and directing children musicals, as well as the challenges and excitements in adapting English scripts into Chinese plays. A proud uncle of two – aged 6 and 8 - he started creating children’s productions and original Mandarin musicals to involve his young nephews. He is happy to report positive results since putting in conscientious efforts for the past four years.

The session will be conducted in Mandarin and English.

Organised by ASIAN Geographic, the ASIAN Geographic Hot Soup Challenge is an annual event in Singapore that tests participants’ knowledge on the region in a competitive environment with exciting prizes to be won! Over the years, the ASIAN Geographic Hot Soup Challenge has received strong support from secondary schools across Singapore, with over 3,200 students from over 1,000 schools participating in previous years. Hunter’s Moon is the second book in The Daywalker Chronicles, a YA urban fantasy and horror series by Samantha De Silva.

Supernatural species consultant Alegria Sequeira has a new set of troubles on her hands in Sleet City: a suspicious relative turning up out of nowhere, a dangerous request from the king of the merfolk, and a new case from the Sleet City Police Department — with a body count that’s rising way too fast. Through all this, Alegria finds the lines between truth and fiction blurring, as she becomes Consort to Joao, the Prince of Sleet City, in much more than name. Meanwhile, Alegria tries to uncover the truth about her nature: is she still human, or is she now something entirely different? Has Alegria turned into … a Daywalker?

Nature has served as a muse for poets over time and across cultures. Nature has inspired verses in tropical Singapore and beyond. With climate change, water scarcity, and the decline or extinction of wildlife species, poets are engaging with their environments in imaginative and critical ways. Eco-poets and editors Ow Yeong Wai Kit and Muzakkir Samat will facilitate a workshop on eco-poetry writing and will read samples from their anthology From Walden to Woodlands.
